Certified Learning and Development Practitioner
Becoming accredited.
How does the programme work?
The CLP accreditation is achieved in a number of defined stages. These are:
- Register for the accreditation
Pay to go through the accreditation process.
- Sign the Commitment to Ethical Practice
The candidate receives their accreditation pack with all the information
they need to progress including the Commitment to Ethical Practice which
they sign and return to TrainerBase.
- Commence the evidence gathering process
This requires the candidate to think about what they are doing in their
daily routine and collect evidence of their practice. Email and phone advice
are available if you have any queries about what constitutes evidence or how
that evidence can be presented.
- Evidence validation
The collected evidence is submitted either electronically or conventionally
for validation
The TrainerBase assigns 2 validators to check the evidence is sufficient and
relevant. After the evidence has been validated the candidate will be
interviewed to gain further insights into their practices.
- Learning Activity Framework
The candidate submits a framework for their live assessment and discusses
this with their assessor.
- Assessment
The candidate undertakes a live assessment with learning participants and
rates their performance with their assessor during an assessment interview.
- Reflections
On receipt of the candidate's reflections of the accreditation process, the
candidate will be awarded the CLP assessment and placed on the Register of
Approved Practitioners. The candidate receives a certificate and a letter of
reference from TrainerBase for use in their marketing and job hunting.
Where does the accreditation take place?
The evidence gathering part of the accreditation takes place in the
candidate's own environment. Wherever they are and whatever they are doing; that
practice may provide evidence. It is for the candidate to 'record' that evidence
and collect it for submission.
Evidence validation usually take place at the TrainerBase offices. If a
candidate wishes, the validation and evidence interview can take place face to
face**.
Assessment is at a location convenient for the candidate or at his or her own
premises.
What support is available?
Candidates have email and telephone access to an advisor who can provide
learning support where necessary. There is also a secure online forum on the
TrainerBase web site for those working towards the CLP accreditation. This
is a place for candidates to ask questions, share experiences and to network
with other learning and development professionals. There is also Advocate/Mentor
support available**.
What facilities are there for those with different needs?
If you have particular needs, such as larger print, access for a wheelchair
or special dietary requirements, please let TrainerBase know when you register for the
accreditation. We believe in equal opportunities and will respond to requests
positively.
**Incurs an extra cost.
How long does it take to complete the accreditation?
The accreditation is based on the signing of a Commitment to Ethical
Practice. This commitment is valid for two years. A candidate needs to complete
the accreditation within the two years or re-sign the Commitment to Ethical
Practice. It is in a candidate's best interest to complete the accreditation in
as short a time as convenient for them; the Association is flexible in this.
Some CLPs have taken as little as ten weeks from sign up to accreditation,
others have taken the full two years.
We can also schedule a specific programme for groups of at least six
individuals who may be business associates or members of business networking
groups.
Is the accreditation forever?
The accreditation is valid for two years. After two years a CLP must renew
their accreditation by re-signing their commitment and providing ongoing
evidence that they remain competent practitioners. This offers added assurance
to purchasers and those that hire trainers that a CLP is not resting on their
laurels.
Are there any other benefits from completing this accreditation?
Stand out from the crowd
The training market is a competitive environment with few barriers to entry.
When seeking employment or contracts, one of the biggest factors in success is
your own confidence in your own abilities. This accreditation proves that you
are competent. All CLPs receive a Certificate and Letter of Reference. A
purchaser or hiring manager can contact TrainerBase for confirmation of
competence. CLPs are invited to the various events that TrainerBase attends for
both CPD and marketing purposes. Freelance CLPs also gain greater exposure on
the TrainerBase web site.
Guaranteed investment
Candidates undertaking the accreditation are provided with as much support as
they need in finding evidence of their competence. Advice is given but often
candidates discover for themselves; the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to
acquire to meet the Standard. Candidates are only put through for final
assessment when the TrainerBase assessors are confident that they can
successfully complete the accreditation. TrainerBase will offer to support a
candidate until they are ready to meet the Standard.
